Le Coq is an upscale French Steakhouse located in La Jolla. Le Coq is owned by the Puffer Malarkey Collective, and has Tara Monsod as ‍ Executive Chef, a James Beard Best Chef finalist. Chef Tara incorporates French flavors with her background of Southeast Asian cuisine along with the addition of using some of Southern California's fresh ingredients. This is a must try steakhouse in San Diego! Our favorites on the menu were the baguette with chicken skin butter (who knew this even existed, just bonkers ), the mushrooms and onions with an egg yolk made the most perfect, richest side dish, and finally, the rack of lamb, melt off the bone delicious! The only thing missing was Chef Brian Malarkey himself dropping off our dishes or even joining us for this food adventure! We ordered: Baguette with chicken skin butter 10/10 Onion tart 8/10 ‍ Mushrooms & onion 10/10 Rack of lamb 9/10 Fromboise Tonic 7/10 Bourbon on the rocks Follow @sandiegofoodie858 (IG) for more must try San Diego restaurants, date night ideas, and food experiences!

Baguette with Chicken Skin Butter 4.5/5 Bistro Salad (Frisee, House-Cured Lardon, Ume Vinaigrette) - 4/5 Chicken Flambé - 5/5 Tuna Tartare (Pickled Gooseberry, Caviar, Horseradish, Crème Fraîche) - 4.5/5 Steak Tartare (Beef, Cornichon, Capers, Farm Egg Yolk, Matchstick Potato) - 4.5/5 Pork Croquette (Thompson Heritage Ranch, Sauce Gribiche, Head Cheese, Cornichons, Piparra Peppers, Sun Golds) - 4/5 Onion Tart (Short Rib, Caramelized Onion, Gruyère) - 4.5/5 Rack of Lamb (Kalamata Olive, Plum, Pickled Grape, French Sorrel) - 4.3/5 Pork Tomahawk (3 different cuts of Pork) - 4.3/5 We came for the Wednesday night Tableaide Chicken Flambé experience and were blown away! We showed up at 530 and had chef Tara herself Table-side which was surreal for us! We came back three days later to try the rest of the menu and we have to report the Wednesday Night chicken is DEFINITELY the way to go! The regular menu is good but the quality and price of the Wednesday chicken isn't easily topped. Food was all great. Best thing is the Flambé Chicken with Apple Brandy Sauce. From the regular menu I'd recommend the Onion Tart and the Tartare's - both are great. Honestly the food was so good on the Wednesday special ($65 for 3 courses) that we were let down by the regular

This is Chef Tara Monsod's newest restaurant a French steakhouse with southern California flair located in La Jolla. If you have not yet tried Chef Tara's food then you are truly missing out on some of the best food in San Diego. Upon discovery I promptly made reservations for my anniversary. We were greeted at the front desk by the hostess who wished us a happy ananniversary had us shown to our seats. Thomas provided us with a delightfully detailed description of our drink choices and made suggestions . After selecting cocktails the filthy, and Boulevardier noisette ,we started or culinary journey . Thomas provided us with a equally detailed description of our food options with tasting notes. We selected the beef tartar, the fried oysters, onion tartar, and the Wednesday only option Le Coq Flambe. The cocktails were delicious and perfectly crafted, we enjoyed them throughout our hors d'oeuvres. The beef tartar was beautifully presented and delicious, the fried oysters were crispy yet perfectly tender. the star for me was the onion tart , imagine a French onion soup that is thick and savory like a potpie it was rich and delicious and not to be missed. The Le Coq Flambe comes with a bistro salad with a delightful vinaigrette, a baguette with Chicken skin butter (i would buy this by the pound) , and whole chicken split in half , and the chocolate mousse cake. The chicken is Flambed tableside for a spectacular presentation, and delightfully accompanied with vegetables and an absolutely delicious apple brandy butter sauce. If you happen to be here on a Wednesday I highly recommend it. All together this is another great restaurant by our favorite San diego Chef, highly recommend.

Wow. All I can say is Wow. I went to Le Coq's Thanksgiving Dinner and it was one of the greatest dining experiences I have experienced. Tall ceilings, velvet booths, and ubiquitously elegant. The interior is beautiful. But, the food was out of this world. A quick run down: paloma, wagyu tartare, Baguette and chicken skin butter, french onion tart, steak frites, green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and flourless chocolate cake. That was my spread. Everything was prepared and paced beautifully. The tartare was a great warm up. And, the chicken skin butter was to die for. The french onion tart was incredible. Acidic, umami, and flaky from the tart. Shoe string frites with a perfectly medium rare steak is possibly the best combination ever. And, LeCoq's may be the best. My service was superb and the entire experience left me speechless. 100% get out to Le Coq when you are in the area, it is as close to perfection as perfection gets.
